Legendary Items

Relana notices a recurring theme in much of the artwork. In many sculptures, frescoes, paintings, and friezes, somebody is blowing into a conch shell. The individual blowing into the conch shell is different each time and the various pieces of art definitely span a long period of time suggesting different individuals using the same item over time. One sculpture shows a warrior blowing into the conch. Four small tornado shaped funnels rise at his feet. A fresco shows an elderly priest blowing into the conch as a storm gathers by an ancient city. One painting shows a fair maiden on a ship blowing into the conch. The day is beautiful and the sails are full. One frieze shows opposing armies marching towards each other. A young commander blows into the conch with cheeks bulging. The opposing force includes prone figures impaled with lightning bolts. One final painting which looks quite a bit more recent than everything else shows a priest surrounded by warriors blowing into the conch. The humans are surrounded by Claacos closing in. Vast swaths of Claacos lay devastated in triangular patches emanating from the priest. Relana does not recognize the city. When she asks a priest passing by, he explains, “That is the last stand of Gargan, High Priest of Kaikias. The holy city of Kaikias used to be Chaheyla. This painting shows the fall of Gargan after a last stand against the Claacos. Kaikias’s horn was lost to the Claacos then. Who knows in what lair it rests now. Negal has always had a major temple to Kaikias, but it wasn’t until the fall of Chaheyla that Negal became our holy city.”
